| AA Batteries |
An AA battery is a standard size of battery. Batteries of this size are commonly used in portable electronic devices. An AA battery is composed of a single electrochemical cell. The exact terminal voltage and capacity of an AA size battery depends on the cell chemistry. Some rechargeable cells are made in the AA size.
The AA battery size was standardized by ANSI in 1947 but had been used in miniature flashlights and electrical novelties for some time before formal standardization. Batteries made in this size carry different designations. A carbon-zinc (Leclanche) cell of this size is designated 15D by current ANSI standard C18.1, E91 by DIN and AM3 by JIS. The IEC designated it as R6. |
